(for Actinic Catalog, Business, Developer, & Order Manager)Actinic Shared SSL provides the same protection as that of the built-in encryption facility used in Actinic Catalog, Business, Developer, & Order Manager, but with the added benefit that it works in all Internet browsers, not just those with Java installed or enabled.
Key benefits:
- All your online transactions are processed on a secure server without you having to purchase your own SSL certificate
- Displays the golden padlock on your site
Why should I consider shared SSL?
Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6 do not ship with the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed as a default option.
The implication of this for Actinic merchants is that some consumers who purchase machines with a clean installation using Windows XP or IE6* will be prompted to download the Java VM when they place an order through Actinics Java Applet (used for credit card encryption). The Java VM download is over 5.4 MB in size.
Although the impact of this will initially be minimal, Actinic has developed an alternative security system called Shared SSL. Versions 5, 6, & 7 of Actinic Catalog, Business, Developer, & Order Manager all enable the use of a Shared SSL service which offers 1024-bit security over the 128-bit security of the Java Applet.
The two alternative payment systems, which are currently available with Actinic Catalog, etc. are unaffected by this. So, merchants integrating with a Payment Service Provider, or using their own SSL certificate will be unaffected.
* Based on current information, existing Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me, and NT users that upgrade from IE 5.x to IE 6.x will not notice any difference when using Java Applets on Actinic sites.
The equivalent of the first month of Actinic Shared SSL is FREE when purchased with Actinic Cover here
